These weapons are distinguished by the relatively low performance of black powder as a propellant and by the simple design of the bullet. There are no special options for these guns, just use the listed stats. When fired, they produce a cloud of thick, malodorous smoke.

At the time that muzzleloader weapons were state-of-the-art, there were no mass-produced models. Each weapons was crafted as a unique work of art. The examples given in the tables above are just that - examples. Some may be fairly characteristic of a class of weapons - the land pattern muskets, for example, were coppied from a given "pattern," or example specimen, by gunsmiths, although each was still hand made. For weapon designs differing significantly from what is listed, you can use the muzzleloader making utility below. While the results may not match a historical example exactly, they should be fairly reasonable.
By TL 5, many firearms were using cartridges - pre-packaged combinations of powder and shot in a container that could be loaded as one unit. This leads to a certain uniformity of weapon design, and the ballistics information on many loads are easily accessible over the internet. If you want to find the game description of a known cartridge, you can use the form below.
