Bushamsters are three species of very large pit vipers from Central and South America. They are found in forests and jungles, and adjacent clearings and fields. Their venom is not particularly potent, but they can inject it in lagre quantities, making them quite dangerous. Lachesis muta is the South American species, Lachesis stenophrys is the Central American variety, and Lachesis melanocephala is from Costa Rica.
