The crocodiles in the genus Mekosuchus were largely land-dwelling. Fast runners and agile climbers, they may have lived a life similar to modern day goannas. The Mekosuchus crocodiles were found in Australia, New Guinea, and New Caledonia. The last representative of their kind went extinct on New Caledonia within historical times, but long before it could be described by western science.
The largest Mekosuchus species were Small sized.
