Striped possums are boldly patterend with black and white stripes. They can be found in New Guinea and the Cape York Peninsula of Queensland, Australia. Those from New Guinea are often called trioks. If disturbed they emit a powerful, unpleasant odor. They mainly eat arthropods, but also consume fruit and leaves. Grubs are often found under bark by either sniffing them out or by tapping claws on the bark to listen for echoes of the grub's burrow, and then gnawing a hole to the grub and extracting it by hooking with one of the possum's long fingers.
