Pygmy possums are mouse-sized or smaller; depending on species typical sizes can range from about 8 grams (in Tasmania) to around roughly 30 grams (along Australia's east coast). They live solitary lives in brush and lower portions of trees along the eastern and southern rim of Australia, the island of Tasmania, and the highlands of New Guinea. Pygmy possums eat nectar, pollen, and arthropods such as insects and spiders. Like many nectar and pollen eating possums, they have tongues like bristle-brushes.
