Feathertail Gliders in GURPS

Acrobates pygmaeus

Feathertail gliders are mouse-sized gliding possums. They get their name from the stiff comb of hair that runs down each side of their tails. Similar stiff hairs along the edge of their gliding membrane help to increase the surface area of their gliding airfoil. The toes of the feathertail gliders have gecko-like pads that let them stick to vertical surfaces, even to panes of glass. Feathertail gliders are native to forest, woodland, and suburbs of the east coast of Austraila. They are observed foraging from the tops of tall trees down to low bushes and grass. They eat pollen, nectar, fruit, honeydew, nuts, fungi, sap, gum, and arthropods such as insects and spiders. Adaptations for this diet include a long tongue tipped with bottle-brush bristles for capturing pollen and nectar and molar teeth typical of insect eaters. They make spherical nests inside just about any enclosed space, from tree hollows to telephone interchange boxes, and even in nests of other animals such as birds or larger possums. These gliders often sleep or feed together in groups - typically 2 to 5, but sometimes up to 40 - although there do not appear to be any long term social bonds.
