Deinotheres in GURPS
Deinotheres were proboscidians that appeared in the Oligocene and died out in the arly Pleistocene. Originally from Africa, they spread out to Asia and Europe. Deinotheres had flatter skulls than modern elephants, and lacked upper tusks. They did have tusks in their lower jaws which curved downward, giving them the nickname "hoe tuskers."
- Deinotherium was the largest known proboscidian, with large males reaching 4.5 meters at the shoulder and 14 tons in mass. They lived from the middle Miocene to the earlu Pleistocene of Africa, Asia, and Europe.
- Prodeinotherium lived in Africa during the early and middle Miocene.
- Chilgatherium was from the late Oligocene in Africa. It was quite small for a proboscidian.
