African civets are one of the larger viverrids. They are found throughout sub-Saharan Africa except for the very southern tip. They have a black mask, white muzzle, black nose pad, yellow-brown fur with blakc spots, and a ringed tail. A crest of fur on their back can be raised when they are agitated. African civets are generalist omnivores, eating small animals, eggs, carrion, and fruit. They spend much of their time in the trees, and are good swimmers.
