Striped hyenas are scavengers living in North and East Africa, Arabia, the Middle East, and India, with yellow fur, brown stripes, and a mane of long hair along the neck and back. They live in monogamous pairs, and base their foraging territory around a home den. While primarily scavengers, they will eat any prey they can overpower, and have been known to eat fruit as well. When threatened and escape is unlikely, they have been known to play dead. These hyenas are almost entirely nocturnal.
