Borophagine "foxes" in GURPS
These small borophagine canids were lithe and agile like modern foxes. They lived from the mid Eocene to the Miocene in North America. Like most borophagines, they had strong crushing jaws.
A few notable forms include:
- Archaeocyon had a plantigrade posture,so it would not have been as fast as other canids. Remove Enhanced Move from its template. It had a mass of around 1.4 kg. It lived in the Oligocene.
- Oxetocyon had a mass of around 1 kg. It lived in the early Oligocene.
- Otarocyon was tiny, but likely had a very good sense of hearing. Add Acute Hearing 2 to its template. It was probably similar to modern Fennec foxes. It had a mass of around 2/3 of a kg. It lived in the Oligocene.
- Rhizocyon had a mass of around 1.5 kg. It lived in the Oligocene.
- Cormocyon had a mass of around 2.5 to 3 kg. It lived in the Oligocene.
- Desmocyon had a mass of around 5 to 6 kg. It lived from the late Oligocene to the early Miocene.
- Cynarctus had a mass of around 5 to 6 kg. It was highly omnivorous and would likely have included a lot of plant matter in its diet. It lived in the late Miocene.
- Psalidocyon had a mass of around 6 to 7 kg. It lived in the early to mid Miocene.
