Narwhal

Monodon monoceros

Narwhals are inhabitants of the far arctic, reliant on pack ice. They are famous for the long, spiral tusk jutting from the upper jaw of the males. These tusks are used to open holes in pack ice for breathing, and may serve a sensory function. Although they can be used for fighting, this is rare. Narwhals are one of the deepest-diving marine mammals.
