Muntjac

Muntiacus sp.

Muntjacs are small Asian deer, found where there is dense vegitation for cover and nearby water. The males have tusks which they use for fighting as well as short, backward pointing antlers that grow from bony protuberances on the skull. Their fur is very soft and dense except on the ears, where it is sparse. Muntjacs are often called barking deer, for their barking alarm call. In addition to browsing and grazing, muntjacs will eat eggs, small animals, and carrion.
