Fallow deer are a spotted, medium sized European deer. They live in small herds. These deer are primarily grazers, but will browse. The bucks grow flattened palmate antlers for the breeding season, when they bellow loudly and establish territories which are vigorously defended from other bucks. There are a number of common color variants of this deer from the common chesnut-colored coat with white dappled spots; including nearly white and nearly black. The rut occurs in autumn, and the fawns are born in spring. The young are fully grown by their second year.
