Saiga are antelope of open Asian uplands, although their Pleistocene range extended from the British Isles to Alaska. Small and sturdy, saiga have an unusual appearance due to their domed, inflated nose with large, hooded downward pointing nostrils. Only male saiga have horns. Saiga are migratory, and hold to the usual bovid habits of males holding territories in the rutting season and living in bachelor herds for the rest of the year, while females and their young live in large herds year round.
