Kudus, Bongos, Nyalas, Sitatungas, and Bushbucks

Tragelaphus sp.

The kudus and relatives are mid sized bovids characteristically marked with white stripes or spots over a darker ground color. Crests of hair often run along the spine or underside of the neck. The horns point back, and are often heavily spiralled. Kudus and their kin are usually found only near heavy cover, and rely on concealment for security. The Kudus proper are known for making spectacular leaps. Others in this family are semi-aquatic and well adapted for swimming and traversing muddy terrain - the sitatunga is even known to hide underwater with only its nostrils exposed. The bongo is particularly adept at running through tangled brush and growth. All are browsers.
