Klipspringer

Oreotragus oreotragus

The klipspringer is a small, agile antelope with short, spike-like horns. Its springy, mat-like hair provides protection against impacts. It lives among rocks and cliffs, behaving much like a small wild goat. It bounds among the rocks with ease, finding purchase on seemingly sheer rock faces. Klipspringers are browsers. They live in mated pairs with their recent offspring. One member of the group will stand higher than the others, keeping watch. When danger is sighted, it will give a whistling alarm and the herd makes its way to safety.
