Impala

Aepyceros melampus

Impalas are graceful and delicate creatures of savannas, bush, and open forest where open water can be found. They are champion jumpers, and run by making a series of great leaps. When startled, they make for cover and hide in dense vegetation. In the dry season, impalas of all ages and sexes gather together, but at other times males seek and hold territories while females and young move about in herds of 10 to 100 individuals. Males without territories gather into bachelor herds.
