Eland

Taurotragus sp.

The two species of eland are large african bovids with robust bodies, humped shoulders, and spiral horns. They inhabit open country, where their keen senses can detect enemies from a long distance away. Elands can easily jump most fences. They are primarily browsers. Elands group together in numbers ranging from a few to several hundered. Often, several males will accompany a herd of females. Young elands will typically form herds with others of their own age.
