Common Threshers

Alopias vulpinus

There is a tale, probably apocryphal, of a fisherman who caught a common thresher shark on a longline being decapitated by a blow from the thresher's tail as he leaned over to view his catch. The lack of veracity of this story should in no way impede its entertainment value.
