A disruptor melee weapon produces a "blade" made of an oscillating tractor/pressor field. Matter that touches the "blade" is ripped and shattered; tough and ductile materials such as metals may crack or merely flow out of the way. The "blade" is rigid, and can parry physical objects, bat things aside, and so on. Given time, a disruptor blade can break through just about any physical barrier - if constantly applied to the same spot, it will cut or drill through the armor.
A disruptor "blade" is visble through the distortion in produces. An active blade produces a buzzing sound.
